Join us for a presentation from Alfredo Lopez

Join KGNU in welcoming Alfredo Lopez member of the Caravan for Peace, Life, and Justice who traveled last week from Honduras to the United Nation's General Assembly's Special Session (UNGASS) on Drugs to address the impacts of failing drug policies promoted throughout the region by the United States.

Lopez, an icon of resistance in one of the world's most violent countries (Honduras), was a political prisoner for 7 years before being released and subsequently winning international condemnation of the Honduran State by the Inter American Court of the Organization of American States for his illegal detention. Lopez is founder of Honduras' first Garfuna Community Radio station Faluma Bimetu (that suffered an arson attack in 2010) and later spearheaded the creation of the Garfuna Community Radio Network that dots Honduras' Atlantic Coast. Lopez is Vice President of the Organization of Fraternal Blacks in Honduras, has served as the Honduran Representative to the World Association of Community Radios (AMARC), coordinates the Garfuna Community Radio Network and the Mesoamerican Network of Community, Indigenous, Garfuna and Feminist Radios in Honduras.

Friday April 29th at 6:30pm, KGNU is privileged to have Alfredo Lopez join us for a talk and to present a short documentary on the rebuilding of Radio Faluma Bimetu in the wake being burned down on the heels of the Honduran Coup. Join us for an event open to the public at the KGNU Community Space at our Boulder Studios at 4700 Walnut Street.
