KGNU is Seeking a Development Director
 
KGNU, a 32-year-old community radio station with studios in Boulder and Denver CO, is seeking a DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

The Development Director works under the general supervision of the Station Manager. We seek a development professional who can strengthen our existing donor relationships in the metro area, develop new relationships and lead our fundraising efforts. Our ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and is comfortable asking for money and assertive with people in setting up fundraising and donor appointments.

This is a full-time position with three days per week based at KGNUs Denver office and two days per week at our Boulder office.

The Development Director will be responsible for organizing and managing activities related to the analysis, planning, implementation, control and evaluation of fund raising activities. The following list of principal responsibilities is meant to illustrate the types of tasks usually found in this position. However, actual performance of the job may not always involve all of the duties listed, and the job may require performance of other duties not found on this list.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support to the Station Manager and development committee in all of its activities through the development and implementation of fundraising action plans.
  • Identify and cultivate prospects for higher giving among the existing member base and the Denver/Boulder community in general. This includes research and data compilation on potential individuals and foundation donors identified by board members, staff members and volunteers.
  • Limited foundation grant writing.
  • Prepare plans of action for all approved fundraising including budgets and reports that support their implementation.
  • Analyze the fundraising programs and plan for future activities in cooperation with Station Manager, Board of Directors and development committee.
  • Ensure that all fundraising is consistent with the overall mission, philosophy and strategic plan of KGNU.
  • Occasionally coordinate volunteers and outreach tables at select community events with strong connection to the stations fund raising goals.
  • Document all fundraising activities and provide monthly comprehensive activity reports to the Station Manager and the Board of Directors.
  • Participate in all KGNU membership drives.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics
Required:

  1. Demonstrated ability to effectively function in a collaborative manner with staff, board, volunteers and committees, and create and maintain a harmonious work environment.
  2. Exceptional organizational planning and problem-solving skills.
  3. Proven recent success in fund raising, particularly in major donor solicitation.
  4. Excellent interpersonal communication skills (both oral and written) including public speaking.
  5. Demonstrated ability to initiate and develop relationships with others including donors.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work on many complex projects simultaneously and to prioritize work.
  7. Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate board, staff and volunteers in fundraising projects.
  8. Demonstrated ability to understand others and their motivations and needs and to train, supervise and motivate as needed.
  9. Knowledge of database management and donor data research.
  10. Willingness to travel occasionally, if needed.
  11. Passion and commitment to community radio.

Preferred:

  1. Bilingual in Spanish/English
  2. Knowledge about philanthropic community in Denver & Boulder


SALARY: KGNU staff salary of $40,500 (non-negotiable) plus excellent medical benefits and flexible, generous vacation policy.
