KGNU Presents: Ludovico Einaudi and his Orchestra |
Boulder Theater |
The latest album in Ludovico Einaudi's rather large catalog is titled "In A Time Lapse", and was composed over a period of two years, recorded in October 2012 in a Monastery near Verona, Italy. The 14 pieces that compose the album range between piano, strings, percussion and electronics. As with previous albums, "In A Time Lapse" develops as a suite with a concept that recalls the form of a novel divided in different chapters. Epic and emotional, experimental and adventurous, "In A Time Lapse" moves even further exploring new textures and arrangements that blends different musical worlds in one. Within Ludovico's classical style, you can hear echoes of baroque and Italian folk music, late romantic strings textures, and a wide variety of colors between percussions and electronics, appearing throughout a journey that transports the listener through a deep reflection on the concept of time. For this evening's event, Ludovico and his Orchestra will perform his original repertoire from "In A Time Lapse. The track list is: 1) Corale Time Lapse 2) Life Walk 3) Discovery at Night Run 4) Brothers Orbits 5) Two Trees Newton's Cradle 6) Waterways Experience 7) Underwood Burning Luminous, emotive, effortlessly lyrical and always supremely refined, the music and performance of Ludovico Einaudi have attracted an ever-growing audience over the last two decades whose diversity and devotion are without parallel. He has released a series of chart-topping albums, sells out the most prestigious concert halls worldwide, routinely tops audience polls, has written some eighteen film scores, several of which have won prizes as best soundtracks in Italian, German, and French film festivals as well as the Academy Award nomination for Fuori Dal Mondo(by Giuseppe Piccioni)for Best Soundtrack. His music is regularly used and has often been heard through Hollywood blockbusters including Black Swan, The Reader, J. Edgar, This Is England as well as high profile commercials including the National Basketball Association Championships, Nissan, American Airlines, Sony Blu Ray - all are among the many who have all used Einaudi's lyrical, atmospheric works. With a unique musical alchemy that draws on elements of classical, rock, electronica and world music he has rendered traditional ideas of genre and audience divide obsolete and become not only one of the best known composers in the world today but almost certainly the best loved too. Doors 6:30pm. Show 7:30pm. All Ages |

KGNU Presents: Bombino |
Fox Theatre |
Tuareg guitarist and singer Omara Bombino Moctar made his Nonesuch Records debut with the release of Nomad on April 2, 2013. The album was recorded with 2013 Grammy Award-winning Producer of the Year Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys at his Nashville studio, Easy Eye Sound. Nomad debuted at #1 on the Billboard World Music album chart and iTunes World chart and has earned rave reviews from top media outlets around the world including BBC World Service, which calls it "utterly, utterly fantastic" and Rolling Stone, which calls Nomad "a perfect match of sound and soul [that] introduces a new guitar hero." His dazzling live performance and virtuosity on the guitar have led notable music critics to compare him to Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, Neil Young, and Jerry Garcia.
Born and raised in Niger, in the northern city of Agadez, Bombino is a member of the Tuareg Ifoghas tribe, a nomadic people descended from the Berbers of North Africa; for centuries they have fought against colonialism and the imposition of strict Islamic rule. 8:30 pm doors / 9pm show all ages |
